Pre-Heat Oven to 425 Degrees Fahrenheit

4 Cups of Flour

1 Teaspoon of Baking Soda

1 Teaspoon of Salt

1 Tablespoon of Sugar

4 Tablespoons of Butter

1 Cup of Raisins

1 and 3/4 Cups of Buttermilk

Wisk Flour, Baking Soda, Salt & Sugar in Bowl.

Cut the Butter into small pieces the flour mixture and work it in with your fingers.

Add the Raisins. Create a well in the middle and pour in the Buttermilk first mixing with a wooden spoon. Once well mixed gently knead the dough *do not over knead.

Make a nice round loaf and place onto a baking sheet with parchment paper on it.

Score the top with a serated knife creating a nice long X.

Bake for 35-45 minutes.

Enjoy warm with butter, honey, your favorite jam or even something savory.

Store at best in an airtight container to keep from getting hard over the coming days.

This was is my favorite bread. It was my Mom's favorite bread. I even remember fondly watching my Grannie in Ireland as she gently kneaded her loaves on her kitchen table in Scotstown, Ireland. Be sure to make yourself a cup of tea to go along with it!
